Laboratory of the Development Orthosis, Prosthesis, Endo-Exo-Skeletons, and Devices for Physical, Simulated and Virtual Rehabilitation (Lab-OPENREHAB)
Significance
Lab-OPENREHAB has a unique multidisciplinary model, in which professionals from different fields interact to innovate on design, modeling, simulation and fabricating of state of the arts technologies for neuromotor illness treatment. This allows the maximum use of emergent technologies, to facilitate this manufacture process through programing languages that actually are being used to not only in architecture, digital design or industrial design, but in biotechnology and robotics.
This laboratory also adds efforts to give attention to patients affected by diseases with neurological, motor and cardiological affectations and sequels, through its “Center of Multidisciplinary Technological Rehabilitation” (CeRTeM). This center uses virtual reality technology and hyper-reality, to make rehabilitation something fun, dynamic, effective, affordable and within the reach of people in a remote way or in-person.

Specific goal
1. To have no limits to the innovation and creativity, always keeping in mind the interaction with other sciences and disciplines that enrich the laboratory.
Research and development lines
1. To design, model, simulate and fabricate innovative models of orthosis, prosthesis and exo skeletons.
2. To improve and apply electronic Hardware and Software to the devices of rehabilitation that are manufactured, or to the games that are designed for virtual reality in 3D animation and hiper-reality.
3. To create a data base according to the necessities of each project of the laboratory.
4. The creation of devices that require signaling and interphases.
5. Programming of 7 interactive games for rehabilitation.
6. The creation of applications for mobile technology of smart phones that generate commands for the operation of the devices under design and fabrication.
7. Fabrication of innovative batteries of renewable energy for the exo skeleton and other devices that will be designed.
8. Exo-skeletons based on smart materials likes graphene.
